SkyCity profits jump 17pc on Auckland recovery

SkyCity Entertainment Group first-half profit jumped 17 per cent to a record on improved earnings from its flagship Auckland casino and hotel complex, which benefitted from the Rugby World Cup and a turnaround in gaming revenue.

Profit rose to $78.8 million, or 13.7 cents a share, from $67.1 million, or 11.7 cents, a year earlier, the Auckland-based company said in a statement. Sales rose 10.3 percent to $494 million.

The company said the momentum of the first six months continued into January and February, giving it the confidence to forecast ‘normalised’ full-year profit at the top end of its guidance, in “the high $140 millions.” SkyCity spent $50 million revamping its Auckland operations, including new VIP gaming facilities.

Phil Ivey Barely Hangs On at Aussie Millions Main Event

Yesterday, Sports Interactions astute poker reporter (moi) updated you with the latest standings in the 2012 Aussie Millions $10,000 Main Event. The big news was that arguably the greatest poker player in the world, Phil Ivey, who has maintained a low profile after declining to be in the 2011 WSOP, was among the top 24 to left in play.

Players reconvened last night for Day 4 and although Ivey is down, hes definitely not out of the game. Now, at the bottom of the totem pole, Ivey sits in last place with only 12 players remaining. Fridays play saw the field narrowed from 26 to 12, which began at noon and ended after approximately seven hours, with unknown Canadian player Yann Dion finishing at the top of the leader board with a huge chip stack of 2,670,000. U.S. Digital Gaming – Bets On US Online Gambling

Backed by high-flying entertainment executives, ‘U.S. Digital Gambling’ is betting on US Federal law or at least Intrastate legislation to make online gambling legal. The way things are going at the moment, this could still go one of two ways, but this company is not taking any chances and they are expected to name a new CEO. The company was founded in 2009 by a former casino exec – Richard Bronson, and they are looking to name Jon Richmond, another ex-entertainment industry exec – their new Chief Executive Officer.

The Bodog rebranding for US-players is less a result of an identity crisis and more one of necessity. As the Morris Mohawk Gaming Group loses its licensing agreement with the Bodog brand at the end of the year, they are maintaining operations under a new name and website to create seamless continuity for its US players (and your affiliate information).

That being said, affiliates need to be aware of a few changes in the affiliate program offered by MMGG.

The most important thing to note, of course, is the new name. Bovada (located at www.bovada.lv) is the new Bodog (formerly bodog.eu). All of your current US Bodog players will be moved automatically to the new site with all affiliate tags intact.

Christie Signs Sports Betting Law

New Jersey has taken another step to allow sports betting at Atlantic City casinos, but there is still a pretty big step in the way – overturning a fedral ban.

Gov. Chris Christie signed a bill Tuesday allowing for sports betting at casinos and the state’s four horse tracks. The bill had overwhelmingly passed the state Senate and Assembly.

Leaked data was posted online with personal information from about 3.5 million UB (UltimateBet) player accounts. Reportedly this leaked data includes: Full name, Email address, Phone number, Mailing address, Date of Birth, Screen name, Account balance, IP address, Deposit methods used (e.g. echeck), Account numbers (unique identifiers for UB accounts), VIP status, Affiliate status, Blacklist status. Few details are available about how the data leaked, or who posted it. No account data was released for AbsolutePoker players. We will continue to monitor the situation. Online Gambling in Spain: Legal Update

On May 27, 2011, the Spanish Congress passed the new Spanish Gambling Act, which establishes the general principles of the regulatory framework applicable to gambling activities in Spain. The Act covers gambling activities carried out in Spain, clarifying that it particularly focuses on online gambling activities (defined as gambling activities operated through electronic, computing, remote or interactive means). The Act also applies to any “individual or company located outside the Spanish territory organizing or offering gambling activities to residents in Spain.” This provision implies significant uncertainty about the scope of this new regulatory framework, as it would appear that operators accepting Spanish players (even those they did not actively “invite” to access the gambling activities) would be subject to the Act.
